POSITIONS BIOSTRATEGY PARTNERS FOR FUTURE GROWTH FORT WASHINGTON, PA, July 28, 2009—BioStrategy Partners, Inc. (BioSP) announced today that Stephen G. Nappi, Director of Technology Transfer Operations at Temple University; Timothy J. Pelura, Ph.D., Biotech/Pharma/Device Entrepreneur; and Ron Schmid, President of R.E. Schmid & Associates will join its Board of Directors. Joel F. Smith, Chairman of the Board for BioSP said, “BioSP has come a long way since its beginnings in 2004. It is unique in that it supports the Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware Life Science start-up community with a continuum of services and infrastructure. These services bridge the gap between good science and good business.” Joel went on to say, “We’ve worked with 40 technologies since hiring our Executive Director in 2007. Now, adding these three outstanding individuals to the Board will position BioSP for the next five years of continued growth and service to emerging life sciences companies and university-based technologies with commercial potential.” Karen J. Hanson, Ph.D., Executive Director of BioSP said, “I am so pleased that we selected Steve Nappi, Tim Pelura, Ph.D., and Ron Schmid to join the BioSP Board. Their vision and proven talent, along with the other Board members, will accelerate BioSP’s leading role in guiding scientific founders and first-time entrepreneurs. By growing the base of entrepreneurs, we are advancing regional vitality and setting the stage for innovation in the life sciences. As Director of Technology Transfer Operations since May 2008, Steve Nappi is responsible for all aspects of protecting and commercializing intellectual property created by Temple faculty, staff and students. Prior to joining Temple, Mr. Nappi played an integral role in the formation of Florida Atlantic University’s (FAU) technology transfer program in 2001. He also co-founded FAU’s first Gap Fund Program to further develop inventions with the goal of increasing their commercial potential. Dr. Pelura is an accomplished executive with over 30 years experience in corporate management, operations, finance, research & development, intellectual property development, regulatory affairs, and strategic planning with both start-up and fully-integrated pharmaceutical/medical device organizations. Most recently, Dr. Pelura served as Founding CEO of Promedior Inc., a local biopharmaceutical company; Chief Technology Officer at Kereos, Inc., where he was responsible for all R&D activities for their targeted therapeutics and molecular imaging programs; and President and Chief Operating Officer at Provasis Therapeutics Inc. Earlier in his career, Dr. Pelura held executive positions at Pharmacia. Ron Schmid brings more than 30 years experience in healthcare communications, issues management and public policy. He started R.E. Schmid and Associates, a strategic communications firm, in March of 2006 after ten successful years with Johnson & Johnson as Vice President of Communications for two operating companies, McNeil Consumer Healthcare and Centocor Inc. Ron’s corporate experience also includes Vice President for Corporate Communications and the Washington Office for Novartis and ten years as Director of Communications, Government Affairs and Policy for Lederle Laboratories, A Division of Wyeth.
